New Solar Panels Could’ve Caused Leaks In
Candy’s Replacement Roof – That Is, Until
We Upgraded Her Lexington-Area Project
At EagleView, Nothing’s More Important Than
Meeting The Needs Of Our Many Customers
Not all Lexington-area roof replacement projects are the same. In fact, some projects come with special considerations that must be addressed.
This was the case for Versailles, KY, resident Candy S.
Candy wanted a new roof that would last her for life. She also planned to install a solar power system on top of that roof.
These systems have many benefits. However, Candy was worried about their potential to trigger leaks.
That wasn’t going to happen with the expert installers at EagleView Roofing on the job.
Still, we wanted to put her mind at ease. So, we upgraded the roofing beneath her new solar panels free of charge. It was a small step, but there’s no doubt it helped us come through for a customer in need.
Candy’s Roof Replacement And Solar Installation
Candy is a retired widow. Not long ago, she contacted us for help with two related projects.
Her main objective was to replace her worn-out roof. Once that job was completed, she wanted to follow up with a solar panel installation.
At EagleView Roofing, we specialize in both types of projects.
So, we were more than happy to create a plan and send her a bid. Candy accepted this bid, but before she did, she expressed a specific concern.
Candy had heard that solar installations can increase the risk of roof leaks. She wanted to know what we could do to prevent this from happening.
Solar Power Systems And Roof Leaks
The rumors Candy heard were partially true. Solar power systems can cause roof leaks. But they don’t have to, and they shouldn’t.
What goes wrong when problems occur? The biggest factor is improper installation.
Solar panels are held in place by mounting brackets on your roof. Unless they’re adequately sealed, the connection points for these brackets have a major flaw. Namely, they can allow water to seep through your roof materials and into your home’s interior.
Preexisting roof damage also makes leaking more likely. The same is true for a failure to keep the space around and beneath your solar panels free from debris.
Providing A Solution For Candy’s Roof Project
As experienced roof replacement and solar installation pros, we knew we could prevent leaks in Candy’s roof. All we needed to do was carry out our work as usual to our own meticulous standards.
But there was no way we were going to dismiss her concerns. To ensure she felt well taken care of, we decided to take an extra step.
What did that step entail?
Before installing new shingles, we upgraded the underlayment beneath the spot for Candy’s new solar panels.
Underlayment And Roof Replacement
What is underlayment? It’s the layer of protective material that sits between your bare roof deck and your main roofing materials.
If those materials leak for any reason, it’s the underlayment’s job to stop water from penetrating further. In this way, it helps prevent widespread damage.
We use high-quality underlayment on all our replacement projects.
But we wanted to do one better for Candy’s Lexington-area home. So, we chose premium GAF StormGuard for the job. StormGuard is renowned for its ability to provide maximum leak protection in a variety of circumstances.
An Additional Concern – Candy’s Roof Ventilation
As it turned out, Candy was also concerned about a third issue on her Lexington-area roof – her vents.
Every residential roof needs adequate ventilation to keep it in good condition. Lack of the required airflow can have serious long-term consequences.
Candy was worried the outdated box vents installed on her roof weren’t up to the task. And she was right.
Our solution? We installed ridge vents during her roof replacement.
These long, low-profile vents provide excellent circulation on the typical residential roof. They’re now a modern standard. As skilled professionals, adding them to Candy’s new roof just made good sense.
Candy’s Thoughts On Her Roofing Project
What did Candy think of the results of our work? She had nothing but praise for EagleView Roofing. In her words:
“I am so happy knowing that I have a well-installed roof that will likely outlast me! I look up at the roof and believe I am now SAFE…! The roof looks so much better with the Cobra attic ventilation and ridge cap shingles rather than all the little vents that used to be on the back side of the house.”
Candy also expressed her appreciation for our careful clean-up procedures, which kept her beloved pets safe from harm:
“Thank you and your company for your diligence in making everything right — including keeping roofing nails away from my fur-babies!” Candy S.
